Assistant General Manager for Design and Construction
The State University Construction Fund is seeking an Assistant General Manager for Design and Construction. This officer level position is a member of the Fund’s Executive Staff and is responsible for the management of the design and construction administration of all Fund projects undertaken to implement the multi-year capital plans of the State University of New York (SUNY). SUNY’s multi-year plan is over $4.8 billion in support of educational and hospital facilities on 34 campuses. This position oversees a department that is currently managing over 290 projects that are actively in design and construction worth over $2.9 billion. Additional duties include being the Code Manager for all Fund building permits and certificates of occupancy; coordinating the required environmental reviews for Fund projects; developing and upgrading appropriate operational procedures and training for design and construction staff; implementing and/or developing systems which control the cost, schedule and quality of each project; and maintaining workload levels that meet overall multi-year capital program goals. Some travel within New York State is required.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture or related field and a professional license is required. Applicants must have knowledge and experience that directly relates to the position’s responsibilities and demonstrate a minimum 20-year work history of progressive levels of responsibility and ability to work with and manage professionals and staff that have culminated in a senior level position. Applicants must have excellent skills in oral and written communication and demonstrate strong leadership ability.
